Careers

Syndicate Sports covers college sports: news, scores, stats and in-depth stories from conferences and schools across the country. We are looking for writers, social media operators and podcast hosts who know the game and want to cover it the right way.

All three are independent contractor positions: you work with us as a contributor, not as an employee.

Writer

As a writer you cover a beat for Syndicate Sports: a school, a conference or a sport, through its season. You write game previews, game recaps and feature stories, and you report the news on your beat as it happens.

What we expect

  • Cover your beat week in, week out, and file your stories on time.
  • Attend games, practices and press conferences in a professional capacity. You represent Syndicate Sports in the press box and the interview room: request credentials through the school’s athletic communications office, follow its rules, and dress and conduct yourself professionally.
  • Practice good journalism: get the facts right, name your sources, quote people accurately, keep opinion out of news stories, and correct mistakes quickly.
  • Work with our editors and take their edits in stride.

What you need

  • Clear, accurate writing and a solid knowledge of the sport you cover.
  • A way to get to the games on your beat.

To apply, send a cover letter, a resume and three samples of your writing: a game recap, a feature story and a game preview, each as a PDF. Apply as a writer

Social Media Operator

As a social media operator you run Syndicate Sports on X, Instagram and TikTok for a school, a conference or a sport: live updates on game days, highlights, graphics and short videos that bring fans to our coverage.

What we expect

  • Post steadily, on a schedule agreed with our editors, and live during the games you cover.
  • Attend games in a professional capacity when you cover them in person: get credentials through the school, follow its rules on filming and posting, and represent Syndicate Sports well.
  • Practice good journalism on every platform: confirm before you post, credit the source of every photo, clip and scoop, never present a rumor as fact, and correct mistakes openly.
  • Follow each platform’s rules and respect the rights to the photos and video you use.

What you need

  • Experience running a sports, news or brand account, and a feel for what works on each platform.
  • Basic photo and video editing skills.

To apply, send a cover letter and a resume as PDFs, and put a link to your portfolio or your best work in the Portfolio box. Apply as a social media operator

Podcast Host

As a podcast host you host a Syndicate Sports show on a school, a conference or a sport: game previews and reactions, interviews with players, coaches and other reporters, and the news on your beat.

What we expect

  • Record and deliver episodes on a regular schedule, with clean sound.
  • Attend games and press conferences in a professional capacity when your show covers them in person, with credentials and the same conduct we expect of our writers.
  • Practice good journalism on the air: prepare, get the facts right, make clear what is opinion, treat guests fairly, and correct mistakes in the next episode.

What you need

  • A clear voice and experience on a podcast, radio or video show, or the drive to learn fast.
  • A good microphone, headphones and a quiet place to record.

To apply, send a cover letter and a resume as PDFs, and a link to a demo reel: an episode or a clip of you on the air. Apply as a podcast host
