Copyright and takedown requests

If your work is on this site and you did not give approval, send an e-mail to business@syndicatesports.io. Show which work it is and which page it is on. Start the subject line with “Copyright”. Then we can find your message. We read all notices. If the material must not be here, we remove it quickly. There is no form. You can write the notice, or a lawyer or agent can write it for you.

Items to put in your notice

Include these six items. Then we can start the next steps, and it is not necessary to write to you first. A notice that you can copy follows the list.

  1. The copyrighted work. Show which picture, story or video it is. You hold the rights in this work, or you are the agent of the person who holds them. Add a link to the source of the work if you can. One notice can include more than one work.
  2. Where it is on the site. Give the address (URL) of each page. Or give sufficient information to find the page. Show which picture, video or text it is.
  3. How to contact you. Give your name and the information to contact you. For example, give a mailing address, a phone number and an e-mail address. Then we can send an answer.
  4. A good-faith statement. Write that you think, in good faith, that the site has no approval to use the work. The approval can come from the copyright holder, its agent or the law.
  5. A statement under penalty of perjury. Write that your notice is correct. You swear under penalty of perjury that you hold the copyright or an exclusive right in the work, or that you are the approved agent of a person who does.
  6. Your signature. We accept your full name that you type at the end of the e-mail.

These are the items that U.S. copyright law makes necessary in a takedown notice. This page gives them in different words. The law is the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). The section is 17 U.S.C. 512(c)(3). If an item is missing, we read your message. Then we write to you to get the item.

A notice that you can copy into an e-mail

Put “Copyright notice” in the subject line. Then copy the lines that follow into your e-mail. Type your text in the blanks.

The copyrighted work (which work it is, and a link to its source if possible):
Where it is on syndicatesn.com (the address of each page, and which picture, video or text):
Name and contact information (mailing address, phone, e-mail):
I think in good faith that the copyright holder, its agent and the law do not let the site use this material.
The information in this notice is correct. I swear under penalty of perjury that I hold the copyright or an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed in this work. Or I swear under penalty of perjury that I am the approved agent of the holder of that right.
Signature (type your full name):

The next steps

  • We read your notice and look at the material.
  • If the material must not be there, we remove it. If one picture or one part of the text is the problem, we remove that part and keep the remaining part of the story.
  • We write to you to tell you the result. We can write to you with questions first.
  • We can show your notice to the writer who published the material.

Copyright law lets a person use material in some conditions without approval from the copyright holder. Fair use is the term of law for this (17 U.S.C. 107). Fair use can let a person use a small part of a work for news reporting, comment and criticism. If we think that the site is permitted to use the material, we tell you this and give the cause.

Videos and posts from other sites

Some stories on the site show videos and social media posts from other sites, for example YouTube or X. Send a notice with the items that this page gives. Then we can remove the video or post from the story. The video or post stays on the site that keeps it. To have it removed there, you must contact that site.

Be accurate

Be sure of your claim before you send it. U.S. copyright law (17 U.S.C. 512(f)) can make a person liable for damages. The condition is that the person knowingly and materially misstates in a DMCA notice that material infringes. The damages can include costs and attorneys’ fees.

Logos

School and conference logos are the trademarks of their schools and conferences. The Credits page shows where each logo comes from and its license if it has a license. If a logo is your trademark and you want a change or removal, write an e-mail. Send it to the address at the top of this page. Start the subject line with “Trademark”. The six items are not necessary.

Problems that are not about copyright

For each condition that follows, send an e-mail to the address at the top of this page. Start the subject line with the topic, for example “Correction” or “Trademark”. The six items are not necessary.

  • You think that a story is incorrect or unfair.
  • A picture, video or story that a different person made shows you or gives your name. That is usually not a copyright problem.
  • You have a trademark problem or a different problem of law.
